The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated annually on December 3rd by the United Nations. The day aims to:
- Promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities
- Raise awareness of the situation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life
- Mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities
The UN General Assembly proclaimed the IDPD in 1992 with resolution 47/3.
Some ways to show support on the IDPD include:
- Sharing your experience using public services and offering tips on how to make them more accessible
- Showing how a building or space could be redesigned to be more accessible
- Demonstrating how an assistive technology device or software helps you in your daily life
- Adopting the color purple to show your commitment to promoting inclusivity and equality for disabled people
